Why Use Strategic Planning Sessions?
* Designed to build a plan to take advantage of a predetermined strategy.

* Identifies what mistakes are being made & establishes better control.

* Define objectives based on quality information.

"Quality strategic planning is usually avoided, overlooked and underestimated. As a result of many years of working with family businesses, I have decided that most families spend more time planning their summer vacations than the time that they spend building their business future. They are continually caught up in putting out fires rather than following a well-designed plan based on quality information. That is exactly what a Strategic Planning Session is designed to produce."

R. J. Warrum, President

Who Should Attend?
Strategic Planning Sessions should be attended by anyone with a vested interest due to ownership or individuals with management responsibilities. I encourage you to invite people whose opinions you respect who are key to your business. Ideally there should be no more then ten and no less then three. More emphasis should be placed on getting a half dozen quality thinkers than a larger group of less creative employees.

How Long Should It Last?
It is best to do the planning meeting off sight so that no one is tempted to answer phone calls or allow other interruptions to cause them to lose focus. A Strategic Planning Session is usually a one-day process starting at approximately 9:00 a.m. and continuing to about 5:00 p.m.

When Is A Good Time To Plan?
Anytime is a great time to start planning, although, it is very common for planning sessions to be scheduled in October, November, and December in order to build a quality plan for the following year. However, keep in mind, it is much better to build a new plan in April or May for the current year than to tread water waiting for October or November.
