What Are They? The idea of a study group was developed to have
a specific group of individuals with common bonds come together on a regular basis to have a meeting
of the minds.
Generally, these groups meet for an informal breakfast with the meeting lasting
all morning. We have found that study groups can be set up with a driving radius of about 60 miles
from a set point. Once the group is established, the hosting of the meetings are rotated among the members
and held at locations of their choice; usually a conference room in their business or a near-by hotel
or country club. In good weather, these groups have often found that their meetings extend into the
afternoon with a round of golf as the format to continue the morning discussions. This gives members
a chance to have a more in-depth conversation with other members who may be experiencing or have
experienced situations similar to one that they are currently trying to resolve.
There is usually a guest speaker who addresses a number of topical issues, the subject matter of
which is generally decided on by the group.
Why They Work? Our groups are comprised of Family Business Owners
who meet periodically and discuss their common problems and potential solutions. As with all
companies, family business owners are faced with the problems of the day-to-day operations of
their company, but when you couple that with the myriad of problems that they face when the “family”
is introduced into the mix, you have an entirely different set of challenges. It is a great feeling
to discover that you are not alone.
These groups have been most successful in many major
cities around the country and have developed many lasting business relationships and friendships
among those who join.
